Homemade All-Purpose Cleaner -- Easy & Toxin Free!

I've been wanting to make an All-Purpose Cleaner for a while now. I wasn't sure the ratios between water and soap. I played around a little and found a recipe that works! After figuring out a recipe, I then realized on the Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap bottle, there's already a recipe for an All-Purpose Cleaner! What the heck. Anyways, here is my little twist and tips on the All-Purpose Cleaner using Dr. Bronner's....

You will need:
Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap (Approx. 2 tbsp.)
2 cups Distilled Water
Spray Bottle

I took 2 cups of the distilled water and combined it with approx. 2 tbsp Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap (I used Peppermint) in a spray bottle.

Voila! Easy as that.

Save Money: Not only will this cleaner make your home clean & toxin free, but it will also save you money.
All you really need to purchase is the soap.
Distilled water can be purchased, or you can boil and cool water, making it sterile and acceptable to use in this recipe.
A spray bottle is reusable, but if you don't already have one, it's a one time purchase

Let me break down the savings for you:

Dr. Bronner's soap~ I found for $16.19 on SwansonVitamins.com  (tax not included)
Distilled water (optional)~ I found 1 Gallon at Wal-Mart for $0.88

64 Tablespoons of soap in Dr. Bronner's 32 oz. soap = 32 bottles of cleaner

1 Gallon of Water = 8 bottles of cleaner
8*4=32
4*$0.88 per bottle= $3.52

$16.19+$3.52=$19.71

32 bottles of cleaner for $19.71 if you're purchasing distilled water.
You can make 32 bottles of your own All-Purpose cleaner for $0.62 per bottle!
Compare that to the cleaner you currently purchase, plus it's toxin-free.

Using Essential Oils to Kill Germs & Bacteria...

If you use an unscented castile soap, I would recommend adding 10 drops of essential oil.
Here's a guide I came across to help when picking out an essential oil that kills bacteria and germs!

TGIF Smoothie ~ 3 Ingredient

TGIF Smoothie
Only 3 Ingredients!

Ingredients:

1 cup Almond Milk
4 oz Strawberry Yogurt
1/2 Blueberries

Directions; Place all ingredients into a blender (I use a NutriBullet) Blend, pour, serve--Yum

Please Note: I used unsweetened almond milk to cut calories, but original and vanilla will add more flavor. If you are dairy-free, replace the strawberry yogurt with either an almond or coconut milk based strawberry dairy free "yogurt". SoDelicious brand puts out great yogurt alternatives. For more protein, replace the yogurt with strawberry greek yogurt. Lastly, I use all organic ingredients.

Free Meal Planner Sheets

The work/school week can get so hectic. I know that if I don't sit down on a Sunday, and plan my grocery list & meals for the week, my family and I end up going out to eat, or don't know what to cook by Wednesday or Thursday. It can get pricey, stressful, and worst of all: unhealthy.

Having a meal plan every week has changed our lives for the better.

We save money: Going out to eat less frequently, knowing exactly what ingredients to purchase saves us money. We know what we are getting, we know what market has the best price & we search for coupons.
We eat healthier: We find tons of recipes on Pinterest and in magazines that are healthy. We plan what we are going to make, and because of that, we know what to purchase at the market. We don't go out to eat during the week anymore.
Less Stress: We know what we are eating every day, which makes mornings go smoothly, lunch convenient, and dinners a breeze.

Here are sheets that I fill out weekly to better plan my meals. It's so easy and will save so much money and stress in the long run.

4 Simple Habits to Live Healthier

There are so many ways in which we can become healthier. I don't know about you, but my health is the most important thing to me. If I am not feeling my best, how can I take care of those who rely on me? How can I function, work, cook, clean? Why not live life feeling your best
We keep hearing more and more about younger people being diagnosed with cancer. We know that obesity is an issue. There are more children being diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, etc. Now there's gluten intolerance, dairy intolerance...We are hearing more and more of these issues. Let's prevent them. Have you noticed more people going organic and GMO free? How about all these companies that are removing artificial ingredients from their products? Do you see the organic section of your local supermarket growing? There's a movement happening, and everyone should be aware of the ingredients that's being put in our food. Not only is it food, it's what we use, and expose our bodies to. There are so many toxins out there, why not avoid them if possible?

Here are 4 habits you should develop, to lead a healthier lifestyle.

1. Drink Water.
It sounds simple, but easier said than done. To create this habit, when you're at a restaurant, order water. When you are at the supermarket, don't buy soda, juice, lemonade. Buy a cool water bottle that will make you want to drink more water, and don't leave the house without it.
Here are two different blog posts I wrote on the benefits of water and how to intake more water. This can help make water more appealing to you. This simple habit can change your life. When you're 100% hydrated on pure water, you feel amazing.
Personally: I drink Smart Water, and I take it everywhere I go.

2. Sleep at least 7-8 hours every night.
That's right, weekends, weekdays, 7 to 8 hours. I've heard expressions like "sleep when you're dead", but that's not the way we should be thinking. Sleeping detoxes the body, refreshes us, gives us energy. We need sleep to function, and being deprived affects our body physically and mentally.
Personally: I sleep 8-9 hours a night. I need sleep, or I won't feel good. I go to bed early, and I wake up the same time every single day, even on the weekends.

3. Eat clean, whole foods.
Avoid processed foods. Avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives.
The easiest way to avoid these ingredients: Try to start shopping in the organic/natural section of your grocery store. Look for the non-GMO and organic verification. I know it can get pricey, but you can shop for great products and not spend a fortune. Check for sales and coupons, just like you would for other brand names. Compare prices. Be aware of the ingredients in your food, you may think it's healthy, but if it contains vegetable oil or sugar and isn't non-GMO, you are probably eating GMO's.
Another great tip for the produce section...If you can't purchase all organic produce for budget reasons, purchase a fruit and vegetable wash. I use this brand, and it lasts for a long time.
Personally: I usually shop at either Whole Foods and buy the 365 brand, or Target and buy the Simply Balanced brand. I check for organic and non-GMO verification. I use Cartwheel at Target, which saves me money. I notice I spend the same or less amount of money as my family members that don't purchase organic and non-GMO products.

4. Avoid harsh chemicals in beauty products.
We are exposed to so many toxins, between the water we use and air we breathe. Let's avoid all the toxins that we can to ensure a better lifestyle. I have a beauty guide of safe brands here. If you are hesitant to change beauty products, or want to learn how "bad" the products you currently use are...check out this website. Simply type in the product you use, and a rating will come up 0-10, 10 being the most harmful. Quite interesting, huh? I was surprised to see how bad many of the big brands out there are, like Dove, Johnson and Johnson, etc.

Bottom Line: It's time to start living healthier.

Your Guide to a High Energy Day

An amazing guide to your high energy day!

I found a post on this once, and it's too good not to share.

I try to practice these habits every day.

Morning

Wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends.

Open blinds, let the sun in! Sunshine wakes the brain up.
Have your breakfast outside if you can.

Daily Chlorophyll shot & a probiotic supplement
Why? Chlorophyll oxygenates the blood & enhances vitality. Probiotics eases digestions and enhance thyroid function, booting your metabolism.

Breakfast: All about that protein! Eggs with Avocado, Chia Seed Pudding, etc.

Caffeine Fix: Drink your caffeine, only in the morning. Try to avoid drinking caffeine after noontime. Try green tea if you need a 4 pm pick-me-up instead.

Work Out: Try to work out before work, for it can affect your sleep after work

Mid-morning snack? Try a half of an Avocado. The fats in Avocado help protect the mitochondria in your cells, which higher your energy levels.

Afternoon

Lunch: Kale Salad with pumpkin seeds and chicken
Why? Kale helps remove toxins from your body, which otherwise can make you sluggish

Take a vitamin B Complex supplement

Snack time? Fruit, raw nuts/seeds, or green juice.
Apples & pears are the best options for fruit. Nuts and seeds give you energy. Vitamins in a green juice will revitalize you and your brain.

Night

Dinner: Add some curry/turmeric to your meal
Why? These spices help sustain energy levels

De-stress, De-Compress
Write down everything that you may be stressed about. Get it all out of your system before you go to sleep.

Sleep on a half-empty stomach

Do Yoga

No electronics at least an hour before bedtime

Don't drink: Wine may make you sleepy, but it causes abnormal sleep patterns.

The less light, the better: Make sure your room is nice and dark, keep the temperatures cool too.

Feel the energy, be aware of your mood and body.
These habits can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

My Health & Beauty Guide

There are way too many options when it comes to shampoo, conditioner, soap, makeup, etc. Sadly, most of the products we are using and see in our local drugstores, contain toxins. We need to be aware of the toxins in our every day beauty products.
For example, using products with the ingredient labeled "fragrance":
The concern is Fragrance is a known human immune system toxicant or allergen. Reference from the SCCNFP (The Scientific Committee on Cosmetic Products and Non-Food Products Intended for Consumers). There is high concern for this ingredient, as well as many others! Let's go toxin free, and stop supporting the big brand names that are putting these chemicals into our products, and start supporting those who are concerned about our health & safety.

There are many products out there and we all have different needs. I hope this guide puts you into a direction of toxin-free health and beauty products!
I would also like to note that most of these products can be found on drugstore.com.

Silent but Deadly

Mental Health~ Anxiety and Depression

If we could go back about 5 years ago, I would have never believed you if you told me I was going to be a victim of sever anxiety and postpartum depression. I never thought it was going to make me quit my job, avoid my friends, land me in the hospital more than once, and affect every single aspect of my entire life.

There are a few points I want to touch upon in this entry: Some feelings of those with anxiety and depression/relating to those who struggle from it, being aware, how I cope.

*This blog entry is especially for those who struggled or have struggled with mental illness, specifically anxiety and depression. I want you to relate, understand, be aware, and know you are not alone. Please, feel free to comment on this post or contact me with any comments or questions. I would love to hear from you. There is no judgement and no shame. Mental illness is a serious issue, and not everyone realizes or understands it.

Motivation, Purpose, Happiness, Confidence

These words are significant because when struggling with anxiety & depression, they're what you lack but what you want (back) more than anything.

I can tell you first hand how sad life seems, how the smallest issues blow up into a huge problem. Every situation takes a toll on you because you analyze it over and over in your head...over-thinking.

The most annoying thing to deal with: HIDING IT! I hated being around other people, because I was secretly feeling sick, sad, and suffering! I can remember so many times where I felt so dizzy, nauseous, etc. because I was experiencing anxiety or panic attacks, meanwhile I was with people who didn't know, or that I didn't feel comfortable saying anything to, so I had to act like I was ok. I hated that so, so much. That's why I had comfort people: those who were aware I wasn't 'well', and I felt comfortable enough saying "I don't feel good."

While anxiety and depression try to run my life, there are ways I am aware of when it's getting bad, and how I personally cope with my mental illness.

Before my anxiety and depression was under control I

  • Didn't clean the house
  • Didn't cook
  • Didn't eat
  • Stayed in PJ's all day (Didn't brush hair, put clothes, contacts in, and makeup on...)
  • Didn't leave my house without significant other
  • Didn't go to school
  • Didn't work
  • Didn't drive
  • Skipped/cancelled appointments
  • Never contacted friends/never made plans
  • Watched TV all day
  • And much, much more...
The severity of my depression and anxiety was really intense. At my lowest point, I actually lost 20 pounds or so, putting me at 100 lbs. at 5 foot 6 inches. I was skin and bones. Not to mention, I was dehydrated and obviously malnourished.

I never want the illness to run my life like that again, I also never want to land in a hospital again, so sick and malnourished. The list above are my warning signs that my depression and anxiety are getting worse. They keep me in check. If I notice that I haven't felt like cleaning the house or cooking, and I would rather sit around watch TV all day, then I know I need to force myself to get up and do what I have to do, otherwise my depression will win. When I see myself slipping into those old ways, I know I need to do something. It's easier said then done, but I think of all the ways I've come, battling the illness, and I put that into perspective. I know that I never want to feel that way again, so I do what I have to do to keep healthy and happy.

If you want to be aware of your depression/anxiety, make a list of all the habits when you were at your lowest point. This will keep you aware of how you are acting/feeling/etc.

How I Cope

Well, I push myself (to an extent). When I was at my lowest point, I literally couldn't push myself. I was too deep in the hole, there was no pushing. I needed to hit that point to wake up and realize what was going on. I needed family to help me, and I needed medication and therapy. All of these things worked wonders for me, and I have overcame a lot. Now that I am not on medicine or attending therapy anymore, I know I am doing better, but I have many days where I don't feel like doing anything.

Starting this blog has been giving me something to do, and it makes me happy. Spending time with my family, looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. All things that keep me sane, for the most part.

When it comes to the issue of hiding anxiety and depression, I don't care anymore. I always felt like if I was going to have a panic attack and I am with other people, I have to hide it, like I stated before. Now, if I start to feel dizzy or anything, I think to myself, "Okay, who cares, you don't feel good, take care of yourself, there's a bathroom right there, you can leave if you need to, what's the worst that will happen? You'll tell everyone you don't feel good and they help you, or you leave, it's going to be fine." Thinking this actually stops my panic attacks now. I just need to remind myself I am not "trapped", I can leave the room, go to the bathroom, tell someone, and what's the worst that can really happen? Most likely, someone will help me if it gets that bad.

I have to be honest, I know things are easier said then done. I know that it's hard to find the positive when you're feeling so negative. All these feelings pass though, another day happens, and you keep moving forward, never forgetting the challenges you've overcome.

Here are some links that can help those with anxiety and depression:

Mother's Day Morning Crepes

Tomorrow is Mother's Day! Avoid the wait at a breakfast joint; celebrate Mom by cooking her a quick, easy, and most importantly, delicious breakfast! Crepes!

Two different Crepe Recipes and ideas for fillings!

Basic Crepes:

Ingredients:

2 Cups Flour
½ tsp Salt
1 cup Milk
1 cup Water
4 Eggs
4 tbsp butter, melted

Directions:

Whisk together flour and eggs. Gradually add the milk and water while stirring the batter. Add your salt and butter. Whisk until batter is nice and smooth.
Oil or butter a heated pan (I use Coconut Oil), and spoon some batter onto the pan. ¼ cup of batter per crepe (the less batter, the smaller and thinner the crepe.) Tilt your pan with circular motions to spread the batter and form a thin, "crepe shape."
Cook over medium heat, cooking for appox. 2 minutes each side, or until Crepe is lightly browned.

Serving size about 8 crepes.

*Please note, to make this recipe a little "healthier", you can use organic ingredients, cage-free eggs, & almond milk instead of milk.

Coconut Flour Crepes

Ingredients:

2 tbsp Coconut Flour
4 Eggs (large)
1 tbsp Coconut Oil, melted over very low heat
½ cup Water
2 tbsp coconut oil, for cooking

Directions:

In a food processor, pulse together coconut flour and eggs. Add 1 tbsp of coconut oil and water and pulse until thoroughly combined.
Heat 1 tsp of the coconut oil in an 8-inch skillet over medium-low heat. Scoop ¼ cup of the batter onto the skillet to spread the batter to the edges of the pan.
Cook until small bubbles form and burst on the surface of the crepe, then flip and cook the other side, 4 to 5 minutes total.
Transfer the crepe to a plate.
Repeat the process with the remaining oil and batter, then serve!

Ideas for Filling/Toppings:

  • "Nutella" (Or an organic hazelnut-chocolate spread)
  • Peanut Butter
  • Banana
  • Strawberry-Banana
  • All fruit: Strawberry, Raspberry, Blueberry, Banana
  • Maple Syrup
  • Lemon and Sugar (Or stevia, sugar alternative) ~My favorite!

Enjoy and Happy Mother's Day!

Sneaky Way to Make Mac & Cheese a Little Healthier

Let's be practical: Kid's can be picky and sometimes we like to indulge a little, too. Mac & Cheese is convenient and a guilty pleasure! When we don't feel like cooking, we cook a box of Mac & Cheese. Although I don't advise you to go out and buy Mac & Cheese, if it's something you have in your house as well, I have a sneaky tip to make it a little healthier.

First of all, I do not purchase just any brand; I always buy organic Mac & Cheese.

Some organic brands of Mac & Cheese that I enjoy include:

Annie's

Also Gluten-Free:

Ancient Harvest's Quinoa

Also Dairy Free, Gluten Free:

Road's End Organic

Now the "sneaky" part to making your organic Mac & Cheese a little healthier...Bone Broth!

If you haven't heard of it yet, Bone Broth is an amazing broth rich in protein and minerals. The bones are cooked for a very long time compared to regular chicken broth or stock, making it contain more nutrients.

Bone Broth Contains: Collagens, Glucosamine, and Gelatin.
Due to these 3 nutrients, Bone Broth benefits are as follows: Heals gut, aids IBS, protects joints, immune support, helps you sleep, makes you look younger, gives you energy, detoxes, and more!

When making Mac & Cheese, instead of milk or butter, I mix the pasta, cheese powder, and Bone Broth! Nobody can ever tell!

There are so many recipes out there to make your very own Bone Broth, and there are many uses as well. Bone Broth can be used in the place of Chicken broth/stock in your soups and recipes. Because the Bone Broth takes a long time to cook, I usually purchase it in my local supermarket. Specifically Pacific brand puts out a great, organic Bone Broth.

You can purchase Turkey Bone Broth, Chicken Bone Broth, there are even options of Turkey with Rosemary, Sage, & Thyme. I love Pacific's Bone Broth's!

Next time you or your children want Mac & Cheese, just add a little Bone Broth to it, and you will get some extra protein and nutrients in there!

Enjoy!

Is Your Cookware TOXIC?

IS YOUR COOKWARE TOXIC?
Unfortunately, the answer is probably

Now let's go over what never to buy, what's acceptable, and what I use. I've done tons of research on each brand, and I am happy with my choice. Of course, there are better brands then what I use, but they're extremely expensive. So, here is my guide to cookware, and the brand I use is affordable!

Please never, ever use:

  • Non-Sick/Teflon~ The most dangerous: "A chemical, C-8, used to make non-stick coated pans has been linked to birth defects in humans to cancer in la
boratory animals. The chemical is also present in the blood for up to 4 years and can show up in breast milk." (conscious-cook). C-8 is also known as Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA). "Exposure to Teflon resins at temperatures above 393ºF may produce a condition termed polymer fume fever characterized by flu-like symptoms such as chills, fever, body aches, nausea and occasional vomiting." -Federal Aviation Agency Occupational Health & Safety Bulletin. Can scratch or flake, making it easier for toxins to leach into food!
  • Aluminum~ Causes chemical reactions between metal and food: leaches hydroxide poison! "All Vegetables cooked in Aluminum produce hydroxide poison which neutralizes digestive juices, producing stomach and gastrointestinal trouble, such as stomach ulcers and colitis." Dr. A. McGuigan's Report on Findings for the Federal Trade Comm. In Docet Case No. 540 Washington, D.C. Note: The sale of aluminum cookware is prohibited in Germany, France, Belgium, Gr. Britain Switzerland, Hungary and Brazil. (happycookingco).

Depending on the brand and how often the use:

  • Cast Iron~ Some research says iron can leach into food, and some say this is not true. I try to avoid, or cook less often with cast iron for this reason. Tiny specks can come off pans/pots, and be present in your food. (I've seen this happen!) Cast iron is also heavy to lift, wash, etc.
  • Stainless Steel~ "Most stainless steel sold in stores is of such a nature to allow chrome and nickel to bleed into the foods as the salts and acids of the food react with the pot." Dr. Shelton. "For cleanliness and safety reasons, you food should be cooked on only high-grade surgical stainless steel." (happycookingco) Surgical stainless steel can be expensive.

Depending on the brand:

  • Ceramic~ Can contain lead or PFOA's. Always make sure the brand is made in a country where lead is not used, or check the company's information to see if they are lead-free, PFOA free.
  • Enameled Cast Iron~ Food sticks too much. Can contain lead. Must research the brand.

What I use (To Save you the Trouble of Researching!)

I purchase Ceramic Cookware PFOA free and lead-free.

I have purchased enameled cast iron and cast iron in the past. Cast iron was for cooking meat every now and then. Enameled cast iron for cooking pasta, etc. But the pasta always stuck to the cookware, and it was also really heavy and a pain to clean!

The brand I currently use is Tramontina Ceramic Cookware. I bought everything from Kohl's, 30% off, Kohl's cash, Yes2You Rewards, and free shipping! DEAL. Other then that, this brand can be expensive, I just scored big time around the holiday's!

My goal and recommendation is to purchase a set of ceramic cookware from "Cook n Home". They seem to have great standards! They are very affordable. Here's a link to Sears, selling the 10 piece set for only about $60!

Below are two links I recommend you check out. All the brands mentioned are great options, and you can see what price and set fits your lifestyle/budget!

This is a great link to compare brands on non-toxic cookware and their features!***

Here is another link to the "best ceramic cookware". The brand I currently use is #8!***

Everybody has a preference what they cook with; and that's great! Always be aware of the dangerous of certain cookware (non-stick and aluminum), research the current brand you use if you don't want to get rid of your stainless steel or enameled cast iron sets! And if you have dangerous cookware, try to purchase one piece of new cookware, once in a while, of a brand you trust!

**Please note, when it comes to baking I only use Stoneware made in the USA. Never any aluminum/metal baking sheets, cupcake tins etc. All-natural Stoneware. Mine happens to be from Pampered Chef, but Target has some eco-friendly Stoneware brands that are more affordable than Pampered Chef.

Cook & Bake healthy!

Recipes/Uses the Kitchen:

Coconut Oil can be used in place of any oil you may use now to sauté vegetables, chicken, turkey.
I usually use 1 tbsp of Coconut Oil in place of Olive Oil, etc.
It also brings a great taste to the food, especially veggies!

Use in place of butter on your toast. Yummy!

Add a tbsp. to your smoothies/shakes. Delicious.

Coconut Oil can also be added into coffee. Great alternative to coffee creamer.
Gives the coffee a healthy boost and delicious flavor!
This is a great morning routine for those of you who start your day with coffee!
*Note, the trick to the best Coconut Oil coffee is to BLEND it. Comes out delicious.

I've done this many of times: Add to popcorn! Pop kernels with coconut oil, instead of butter.

Lifeatture Exclusive: Fried banana in Coconut Oil. This is the best snack or dessert, when you're in the mood for something sweet. Best part, it's guilt-free! Slice 1 whole banana, place in frying pan with 1 tbsp Coconut Oil. Fry until banana's soft, but not too mushy. About 3-5 minutes.

For your Body:

After Showering, spoon out some Coconut Oil and warm in hands:
rub over body as moisturizer or use directly on stretch marks.
During pregnancy: rub all over belly to prevent stretch marks.

Warm Coconut Oil in hands,
Massage on scalp to relive dryness/cradle cap.
(Work through the ends of hair, if using for conditioner)
Leave on hair 5 minutes, rinse with warm water.
Will leave your hair hydrated, shiny, and silky smooth!

Add 1 tsp to toothpaste, brush teeth to whiten and freshen breath.
Also will improve gum health!

Dab Coconut Oil on eye makeup, or rub on lips to remove lipstick, wipe off with warm cloth.

Warm in hands, apply to underarms, legs, etc. and shave!

Types of Coconut Oil:

Here's were it gets overwhelming...Coconut Oil comes in so many different ways, how do you know which way to buy it? Listed below are the basics. There is also a chart pictured for your convenience. It starts with the top quality Coconut oil, to the lowest quality of Coconut Oil. There's so much to it, I have linked another website here, if you still want more information after reading this post.

Coconut Oil comes in: unrefined or refined.
Then there's also: virgin, extra-virgin, or pure.
It also will have a method of extraction: cold-pressed, expeller pressed, or centrifuged.
I always purchase Organic Unrefined Cold-Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil.

Unrefined vs. Refined
The Basics:

Unrefined Coconut Oil~ Fullest of coconut flavor. Richer in nutrients. Cooks up to medium heat.

Refined Coconut Oil~ May be less of a odor or taste. Cooks up to high heat.

Virgin, extra-virgin, or pure:

There is no difference between virgin and extra-virgin Coconut Oil.
"There are no commonly understood or accepted definitions for “extra” virgin coconut oil, as there are in the olive oil industry." (healthimpactnews)

So now we have virgin vs. pure
Virgin is unrefined but pure can be unrefined or refined.
Therefore, for quality reasons, I choose unrefined and virgin.

Difference in methods:
Cold-pressed, expeller pressed, or centrifuged.

"Cold pressing: This is one of the oldest methods of extraction and involves the use of mechanical means to squeeze oil out of the coconuts. Heat pressing methods (including centrifuge and expeller) can degrade the oil’s quality and alter characteristics like taste, odor, color and texture.
Cold pressing extracts a relatively smaller amount of oil but retains most of its nutrients.

Expeller: Heated coconut is placed into the barrel where it is crushed by a rotating metal rod to break down and prepare the meat for oil extraction. Then, the extractor uses a chemical solvent (hexane) to separate the coconut from the oil. Further refining is often necessary to cleanse the extract.

Centrifuge: During this process, coconut meat is emptied into a machine that chops it into tiny pieces. First, the milk is extracted from the meat; then the remaining coconut is placed in a high speed centrifuge that rapidly spins the contents (and generates a high amount of heat due to friction). Through this spinning process, the oil is separated from the meat. Centrifuge coconut oil retains a strong coconut taste and smell and requires no further refining." (thebeautygypsy)
