My Household Cleaning Guide!

Have you ever questioned if the chemicals in your cleaner are harmful to your health?

I, for one, was always concerned, so I turned to all-natural cleaning products...But then I noticed, I wasn't able to get my house, dishes, and laundry as clean without those chemicals! It was very frustrating to find effective, natural cleaning products. I can tell you first hand, I've spent tons of time and money trying to find cleaning products for every aspect in my home, with little to no harsh chemicals...and I think I've finally figured it out!

Let me save you the trouble...HERE is my cleaning product guide!

I am going to take you through my cleaning cabinet, provide you with information on the best cleaning products I've come across! Please note, I am not a spokesperson and/or associated with the following brands in any way, I am just a consumer and a fan!

1. Laundry
Laundry took a lot of trial and error. Here I have two different methods.

  • I first would like to introduce you to a brand named Molly's Suds. I found this brand online, and looked up all the ingredients, and I was very happy to see they are not harmful! I bought and tried the product, and here were my results: Decently cleaned my everyday laundry: my daughter's clothing, towels, my clothing. Did not leave any smell/odor on our clothing. Most dirt came out of clothing. Husband's work clothes, did not take all stains and dirt out, but left no smell or odor. Overall, this product is good for towels and children's clothing. I wouldn't recommend it for dirtier clothes or whites.
  • My go-to method these days is Arm and Hammer Clean Breeze (liquid or powder detergent). This product does contain a few chemicals, but overall cleans very effectively and the chemicals overall present a small concern, compared to other major brands on the market, such as Tide.

2. Dishwasher
Having CLEAN dishes and utensils is a must. No residue, no if and or buts. I finally have a method working for me!
Ecover Rinse Aid and Ecover Dishwash Tabs.
Ecover does not contain harsh chemicals that you should be worried about, and my dishes are coming nice and clean!

If you like liquid dishwasher detergent instead of the tabs, Earth Friendly Wave Auto Dishwasher Gel Free and Clear is a great product! Although I find the tabs to be more effective, sometimes I will use this.

Another method, for extra clean dishes, is doing a pre-wash with the Earth Friendly Gel and the Ecover tab as the main wash.

In the sink, when I do my pots and pans by hand, I use Biokleen natural dish liquid. Another great product that doesn't contain the bad stuff, but does good on your dishes/pots/pans/etc.

3. Floors
All I do on my floors is vaccum, sanitize (with a steamer by Bissel), and Swiffer. I don't use any chemicals, and between these three products, I don't need to! The steamer by Bissel is a great invention, all it uses is water and takes all the dirt off my floors! I Swiffer in the week and hard to reach spots. The original Swiffer dry sweeper cloths, unscented (no Fabreeze or any other funky cloths), do not pose much of a threat to your health. However, they are of moderate concern to the environment.

4. Surface
All-purpose surface cleaners are great.
I usually use Earth Friendly products or I sometimes make my own surface cleaner.
Earth Friendly Products:

  • Parsley Plus All Purpose
  • Window Cleaner Lavender
Or I make my own: I add distilled water, lemon essential oil, orange essential oil, and Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap to a standard sized spray bottle. I am still working on the ratios and will post as soon as I get them down!

5. Bathroom
The bathroom, I use my Earth Friendly Parsley Plus and Window Cleaner, as I mentioned in number 4. The surface cleaner for sink, toilet, knobs, etc. and the window cleaner for the mirrors. For the toilet bowl, I usually use Earth Friendly Toilet Cleaner, Natural Cedar Scent.
The shower gets a little more difficult. I can't seem to find an effective cleaner that has minimal effects on health. Therefore, I use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. The ingredients show no data on health effects throughout all the research I have done, and it works better than bleach on the bottom of my shower/tub! It's actually quite amazing. For the shower walls, I will use Earth Friendly Shower Cleaner, which does the job, but doesn't get rid of tough stains. Again, that's when that Magic Eraser comes in handy in the shower!

6. Granite Cleaner
Having all granite countertops, I needed an effective spray. I came across Zum Clean Grantie and Countertop cleaner-Lavender, and it seems to be the least harmful granite cleaner out there.

These are my go-to products and I hope you enjoy them!

Live happy, healthy and clean!

    1. I find most (if not all) of these items on drugstore.com, they have an international shipping option. I also can find some of these products (for example the Ecover dishwasher tablets) on vitacost.com. I posted the links for you below on the international shipping directions and information.

Amazon is one other suggestion I can give you. Products such as Molly's Suds Laundry powder can be found on Amazon. Here is the link to information on AmazonGlobal.
